Installation Walkthrough

STEP 01

Download Trax

Download the official TraxSetup.exe installer from the official website over secure HTTPS.

Always ensure you are downloading directly from trax.blue.
STEP 02

Run the Installer

Launch TraxSetup.exe from your Downloads folder. The installer initializes pre-flight verification.

No administrator elevation is required for standard user installations.
STEP 03

Choose Installation Location

By default, Trax installs safely to your local user directory (%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Trax). You can specify a custom path if desired.

Per-user directories ensure clean updates without system permission conflicts.
STEP 04

Create Shortcuts

The setup wizard creates desktop shortcuts, Start Menu entries, and registers the trax:// deep-link protocol.

You can pin Trax to your Windows taskbar with a single right-click.
STEP 05

Launch Trax

Trax initializes in less than 200ms with hardware-accelerated rendering and loads your default profile workspace.

On initial startup, Trax prepares your local isolated SQLite profile store.
STEP 06

Start Browsing

Configure Trax Shield, import or install your essential extensions, and customize themes in Trax Studio.

Your browsing history, passwords, and sessions remain 100% local to your device.
Verifying Installer Checksum (PowerShell)

To manually ensure your downloaded file has not been tampered with, run this command in Windows PowerShell:

Get-FileHash -Algorithm SHA256 "$HOME\Downloads\TraxSetup.exe"

Troubleshooting & Common Issues

Installer Won't Start

Verify that the download completed fully. Check that your Windows machine is running a 64-bit version of Windows 10 (Build 19041+) or Windows 11. If an antivirus flags the new installer, verify the SHA-256 hash against our official releases page.

Windows Security Warning (SmartScreen)

Because Trax is a newly released desktop browser, Windows Defender SmartScreen may display an informational notice ('Windows protected your PC'). Click 'More info' and then select 'Run anyway' to continue.

Installation Directory Issues

Ensure your Windows user account has write access to '%LOCALAPPDATA%'. If you install to a custom folder, avoid system-protected directories (like 'C:\Windows') that restrict execution.

Existing Trax Installation

Running the installer over an existing version will perform an in-place upgrade. Your bookmarks, profiles, passwords, and extension settings in '%APPDATA%\Trax' are safely preserved.

Uninstalling Trax

Open Windows Settings → Apps → Installed Apps, locate 'Trax', and click 'Uninstall'. You will be given the option to retain or completely purge local profile databases.
